Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alleged the saffron party’s performance in the just-concluded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections would have been much better had the state election commission been impartial.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar alleged that from the notification of the election to the polling, “the Election Commission was run by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)”.
“From the notification of the election to the polling, the Election Commission was run by the ruling party Telangana Rashtra Samithi…If the Election Commission acted impartially, we would have won another 20 seats,” the Telangana BJP chief was quoted as saying by ANI.
He further said, “In 2016, the BJP had only 10 per cent votes whereas in 2020, BJP got 35.56 per cent of votes in recently concluded Hyderabad civic polls. In this election, the people of Hyderabad blessed us with 48 seats and their confidence in the BJP. We lost by a small margin in many places.”
Reiterating the BJP’s stand on renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said his party will expose the corruption and irregularities of the ministers.
Responding to Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s allegations, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the saffron party is reacting because its agenda has fallen flat in the GHMC elections.
“BJP will speak like this. BJP lost seats where Yogi Adityanath and Amit Shah campaigned for the GHMC elections. BJP’s agenda has fallen flat in the Hyderabad GHMC elections,” Owaisi told India Today TV.
Owaisi further said, “Until the State Election Commission does not officially declare the result of the 150 wards in the municipal elections, the question of the mayor and the deputy mayor does not arise. Our party still has not discussed this matter.”
“GHMC is a part of Telangana but mainland Telangana has a regional aspiration with a different political demography. KCR reflects all of these. TRS is a formidable force in mainland Telangana. KCR should think about the result. He’s an able politician,” Asaduddin Owaisi was quoted as saying by ANI.
